The Scottish Police Services authority has announced that the Scottish Crime and Drug Enforcement Agencys (SCDEA) new director general is Mr Gordon Meldrum.
Mr Meldrum has been a police officer with Strathclyde for 23 years, and has been deputy director at the SCDEA for over a year. He will begin his new role at the start of 2008.
He said: I am delighted by the prospect this role presents.
In the months and years to come I hope to build on the past successes of the agency.
I am delighted that Gordon has been appointed as the new director general of the SDCEA, said Mervyn Rolfe, the convenor of the Scottish Police Authority. This will allow the agency to continue to deliver on its past successes, and given Gordons ongoing involvement, will ensure that the focus continues on the fight against drugs and serious organised crime.
Kenny MacAskill, Justice Secretary said that tackling serious organised crime must be a priority for the government.
The SCDEA plays a vital role in the fight, he said. I congratulate Mr Meldrum on his appointment and look forward to working with him to put these criminal networks out of business.
