A handful of forces will soon be training new recruits through the new college frameworks as the it prepares to transition out its predecessor.

The Initial Police Learning and Development Programme (IPLDP) is due to expire on December 31, 2019, but the new curriculum is being used to fill gaps in provision.

The IPLDP does not cover topics such as vulnerability and cybercrime, which the college claims are vital for modern policing.

Mike Cunningham, chief executive officer at the college, said: “A small number of forces have approached the college seeking a possible extension to the IPLDP deadline.

“We are working with them to understand the difficulties they face, offer support and explore their options.

“We are already supporting the adoption of the new curriculum in some forces this year. Throughout the process, we will continue to engage with the service to discuss options, understand their impact and refine approaches to ensure we get the best possible outcomes, for policing and the public.”
