New chief for Dorset

Martin Baker, Gloucestershire’s Deputy Chief Constable, has been appointed the new Chief Constable of Dorset.

He replaces Jane Stichbury who has been appointed to be one of Her Majesty’s Inspectors of Constabulary.

Mr Baker described the appointment as a privilege: “I very much look forward to working with the force, the Police Authority and the diverse communities within Dorset to make the county an even safer place in which to live, work and visit,” he added.

Mr Baker joined the Metropolitan
Police in 1975. He holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Policing and Police Studies
from the University of Portsmouth, and a Master of Business Administration (Public Service) degree from the University of Birmingham.

Mr Baker will take over officially from Mrs Stichbury on New Year’s Day.
