Every UK police force wants to deliver intelligence-led policing while securing efficiencies and lower operational costs.

Digital working is one example of how both Greater Manchester Police and West Midlands Police have delivered significant savings by implementing two-way interface (TWIF) working with the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

Chief Superintendent, Steve Anderson of West Midlands Police comments: “In just a few weeks we have broken our reliance on paper by implementing digital working with the CPS. This has speeded up our processes and we are already making significant savings – we predict around £750,000 per annum of cashable savings and a further half a million pounds in non-cashable savings by spring-boarding into a broader paperless world.”

STL Technologies believes further savings can be made by using technology to help officers save administration time. Richard Perkins, sales and marketing director, STL Technologies, said: “From our work with UK police forces, we believe that more than 20 minutes per shift can be easily saved – regular duplication of data entry across different systems is a major time stealer.

“We are asking police officers from across the country to take part in an anonymous survey which will help clarify where they personally believe time is wasted and which administration tasks could be improved by implementing digital working practices.”

STL Technologies hopes that the survey of serving police officers across every rank will be the largest of its kind and highlight specific areas for action.

The survey results will be published exclusively in Police Professional.
