The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) is expected to generate savings in excess of £100 million over the next ten years after agreeing to outsource some of its business support services.

The Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) has agreed a contract with Shared Services Connected Limited (SSCL) under a Framework Agreement to provide back office support services to the MPS from its shared service platform. It will predominantly cover human resources, finance, procurement and payroll and the associated IT systems.

SSCL is a joint venture between the Cabinet Office and the digital transformation specialist Sopra Steria to deliver change in the public sector by streamlining and modernising systems, improving service quality and enabling organisations to realise the benefits of substantial cost and efficiency savings.

As policing budgets across the country continue to be squeezed, MOPAC says it is vital that savings such as this are made in order to protect frontline services.
