MPS appoints new Special Constabulary chief officer
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) has appointed a new chief officer of its Special Constabulary.
James Deller, who became a MPS Special in 2013, and has been leading the force’s 1,400-plus strong Special Constabulary since the retirement of the former Chief Special Officer John Conway last year.
He has previously served with Dyfed-Powys Police and Humberside Police, and also as chief officer of Surrey Police Special Constabulary.
Mr Deller said: “I am proud to have been chosen to lead the Met’s special constables and continue to serve the residents of this great city.
“It’s an extremely challenging time in policing and so it is critical that we harness and empower our volunteer police officers to use their strengths and skills to deliver on the Commissioner’s mission of ‘More trust, Less crime and High standards’.”
He began his working career as a secondary school teacher later moving to work in learning and development across the public sector, including health and local government. He currently works at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust where he is the head of Core Skills and Induction.
Commander Jon Savell, MPS Frontline Policing, said: “I am delighted that James has been appointed as the chief officer for the Met’s Special Constabulary. James is passionate and committed to the role of special constable and taking the special constabulary from strength to strength.”
