Man charged over death of boy in police pursuit tragedy

A 29-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving of a teenager during a police pursuit.

A 29-year-old man has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving of a teenager during a police pursuit.

Four people were arrested after the death of the 16-year-old boy who was in a car being pursued by Cleveland Police officers.

A 17-year-old girl, 22-year-old man and 17-year old boy arrested in connection with the incident in the Park Road North area of Middlesbrough on Tuesday night (March 14) have been released without charge.

The 29-year-old has been remanded to appear at Teesside MagistratesÂ’ Court on Thursday (March 16) and will face charges of death by dangerous driving and driving document offences.

Officers attempted to stop a Ford Focus with several people inside at approximately 8pm on Tuesday evening.

The vehicle failed to stop and after a short pursuit it was involved in a collision with a Nissan Qashqai near the junction of Park Road North and Park Vale Road in Middlesbrough.

One of the occupants of the Ford Focus, 16-year-old Brandon Morris, suffered serious injuries in the crash and was later pronounced dead.

Six people were taken to James Cook University Hospital after a fleet of ambulances were called to the scene.

Cleveland Police said the incident had been referred to the Independent Police Complaints Commission.
