Police.

Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) Commander Steve Allen has been appointed as the new deputy chief constable of Lothian and Borders Police.
Mr Allen has been serving the MPS since 2003, before which he held a variety of operational posts with Avon and Somerset Constabulary.
In 1999 he graduated from the Joint Services Command and Staff College, where he studied with officers from UK Armed Forces, as well as from other countries, before becoming divisional commander for the city of Bath and North East Somerset.
With the MPS, Mr Allen has taken command of the forces diversity directorate, was the lead for family liaison and managed the response to families affected by the 2004 Boxing Day tsunami and the 2005 London bombings. In 2006, Mr Allen was given the task of creating the MPS violent crime directorate, which gave him responsibility for a range of public protection and violent crime performance portfolios across London.
He is the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) national lead for honour-based violence and forced marriage.
Welcoming Mr Allens appointment, David Strang, chief constable of Lothian and Borders Police, said: I am delighted that an officer of Mr Allens calibre has been appointed to the important post of deputy chief constable. He brings a wealth of experience from a range of policing environments and I am sure he will make a very significant contribution to policing in Scotland. I look forward to welcoming him to the executive team on Lothian and Borders Police.
Mr Allen will replace the current Deputy Chief Constable, Tom Haplin, in the new year.
