Lincolnshire Police is introducing a new content management system (CMS) for its intranet which is designed to deliver current legislation and procedural guidelines to officers across the force.
The upgraded intranet will provide:
•Significant improvements in current news and key management updates for all officers and staff.
•Quick access to electronic forms and police systems.
•Force-wide access to current legislation, procedural guides and other vital information.
•A streamlined publishing process with fully-integrated security and audit trail.
The project provides essential improvements to the existing Lincolnshire Police intranet and is designed to deliver current legislation and procedural guidelines to officers across the force.
The enterprise CMS software from pTools, an independent CMS vendor for police force Internet, intranet and extranet systems running Microsoft SharePoint, is already used by a number of forces. including Derbyshire Constabulary and Strathclyde Police.
James Drennan, IT configuration manager at Lincolnshire Police, explained: “The pTools CMS delivers a significant upgrade to our intranet infrastructure and the .Net platform provides more robust integration with our existing police systems.”
Graham Lord, the force’s website development officer, added: “The intranet solution delivers a vital communications tool for Lincolnshire Police. It allows our officers and staff to be kept informed of current issues and easily access resources and police systems they use on a daily basis.”
Lincolnshire Police staff in IT and communications worked closely with pTools to tailor the key system requirements and to gain the necessary knowledge and training needed to deploy the new system internally.
The software provides a comprehensive enterprise content management system that includes mapping, digital asset management, online forms management, protective security marking and integration with SharePoint and other business applications.
