Escaped prisoner Craig ‘Lazie’ Lynch, who taunted police on Facebook, has been re-arrested and returned to custody.

The man enjoyed overnight stardom by escaping from Hollesley Bay prison in Suffolk and starting a Facebook page to mock the police searching for him.

Over the four months he was free he attracted 40,000 members to his ‘Maximus Justice’ profile; posting photographs and status updates mocking police.

He was re-arrested on January 13 at an undisclosed address in Kent.

Lynch’s profile was removed when police went to Facebook for help in locating the absconder. It was not long, however, before another page appeared.

Comments posted by Lynch included one accompanying a video of him watching fireworks in London on New Year’s Eve.

He appeared before Bexleyheath Magistrates’ Court charged with escaping from lawful custody and has not been granted bail.
