Launch of new ‘app’ makes reporting hate crime easier

A new app for smartphones and tablets allows the public to report incidents of hate crime direct to the police-funded True Vision website.

True Vision’s free hate crime app provides basic information about hate crime and links directly to its national website – www.report-it.org.uk – to allow people who may be victims of hate crime, witnesses, family members or friends to report incidents and also find support and advice.

Reports can be made anonymously or formally to police. The online report is then immediately forwarded to the relevant police force for logging and investigation where appropriate.
Users can also share the app with friends by email and SMS.

Chief Inspector Julie Wheatley, Hertfordshire Constabulary’s lead for hate crime, said: “It is very positive news that True Vision is keeping up with the times in introducing a smartphone app to make it even easier to report hate crimes.

“Reporting hate crime is important as it gives police a better understanding of the level of hate crime across the county, raises awareness that this form of negative behaviour towards others is unacceptable and can help to stop it happening to someone else.”
