The new IRA has claimed responsibility for a series of parcel bombs sent to Army recruitment offices across the UK, the Metropolitan Police has confirmed.

A recognised codeword is believed to have been used by the group after packages were sent to offices in Oxford, Brighton, Canterbury, Slough, Aldershot, Reading and Chatham.

It is almost a decade since dissident Republicans targeted the British mainland. The coded message sent to The Irish News said attacks would continue “when and where the IRA see fit”.
