Independent investigation launched after suspected burglar dies falling off a roof
West Midlands Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct after detaining a man who fell from a roof and later died in hospital.
The force was called to Robin Hood Road, Willenhall, to reports that a motorist had collided with parked cars on Saturday (September 29).
The driver subsequently fled from the scene and climbed onto a roof from which he fell.
West Midlands Police has confirmed that officers detained the 31-year-old man in connection with an attempted burglary. The ambulance service then took him to hospital where he died the following morning.
A spokesperson said: “Inquiries are on-going to establish the circumstances of what has happened.
“A mandatory referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct who have launched an independent inquiry.”
