Hampshire Constabulary has agreed to locally-shared services as Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire police forces look to outsource using the Lincolnshire Police model.

Hampshire Constabulary is set to share services with Hampshire County Council and Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service, potentially generating savings of up to £4 million each year through joint working in human resources, finance and payroll, procurement, health and wellbeing and ICT.

Chief Constable Alex Marshall said: “This is a very good option for Hampshire Constabulary. I’m very pleased that it aims to create jobs and career opportunities within Hampshire for local people. It saves us money, it makes us more resilient, it contributes to protecting the local, visible elements of policing that the police authority has asked us to protect.”

Meanwhile, outsourcing of police support services could be the only solution to deliver savings to make up a £73 million shortfall in funding, police forces in Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire have said.

The three forces are considering adopting outsourcing support services using the Lincolnshire Police framework which has G4S as its supplier.
