GMP targets criminal lifestyles

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is to looking to develop an assessment tool and electronic information resource for the effective targeting and prevention of organised crime.

The aim is to produce a systematic approach to assessing the lifestyles and behaviours of organised crime group (OCG) members in order to identify the most appropriate and effective means of disrupting or preventing criminality.

A £50,000 tender has been issued by GMP and Greater Manchester’s police and crime commissioner Tony Lloyd on the ‘Bluelight’ emergency services e-tendering site and the successful partner will be expected to:

•Work with GMP to design and develop a lifestyle and behaviour assessment tool that will be used to systematically pinpoint specific civil or criminal interventions to disrupt or prevent organised criminal activity;

•Produce an electronic resource that provides a compilation of available civil powers and how these can be best deployed in the context of targeting OCG members; and

•Work with an identified number of operational teams on a pilot basis to provide support and assistance in developing expertise in seeking civil applications against OCG members in live cases.

GMP is looking to have the system in place by March 31, 2016.
