The UK’s first crime awareness DVD has been produced by Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and the Manchester City Centre Crime Prevention Panel.
Personal safety, home and vehicle safety, business security and counter-terrorism issues are among the topics covered on the DVD, which includes hints and crime-prevention tips for each category.
Additional sponsorship was provided by the High Sheriff’s Police Trust, NCP Manchester, The Greater Manchester Chamber, The Post Office and ERA [Locks] to create the brand new DVD content and fund the production of 10,000 initial copies.
The variety of crime awareness chapters featured on the DVD is a first and allows the viewer to easily select the topic on which they want advice.
Developed with Winning Ways, a local production company, the latest crime reduction messages are performed for viewers by local student actors and professional actors, offering a
visually-clear message.
Each DVD costs less than a first class stamp to produce, allowing the crime-prevention message to be passed to a wide audience in an easy and informative manner.
PC Stuart Pizzey MBE, crime reduction advisor for the city centre, who devised the DVD, said: “It has taken a long time to develop, fund and realise this DVD, but I am thrilled by the final outcome. Clear and simple crime-prevention messages for all to take on board are made available to those who want to reduce the chances of them becoming a victim of crime.”
PC Pizzey added: “I would also like to thank all the sponsors who have helped to make this DVD possible. They have, in their own way, helped to pass on sound crime-prevention advice in a way we all enjoy passing time – watching TV.”
The initial 10,000 DVDs will be handed out at key locations within the neighbourhood areas of north and east Manchester. If it is well received, the DVD may be replicated in other areas.
