Greater Manchester Police has hosted its first ever Human Resources conference.

Around 120 staff members that are involved in all aspects of employee issues across the Force attended the event on November 25 – which was sponsored by Reed Employment.

GMP has more than 12,000 employees and has been under-going significant change to the way HR services are delivered. During the last 12 months HR professionals have been moved onto geographic policing Divisions, where they report directly to the Divisional Commander. Andrew Marston, GMP HR Director, said: “This is an exciting and challenging time for HR professionals and the conference helped them in their daily work.

“We are pleased with the progress of the devolution of HR services and bringing people together will help professional networking, learning and development. I hope we can make the conference an annual event.”

Chief Constable Michael Todd opened the conference and outlined the vision for the Force over the next 12 months. The programme also included a range of external speakers on subjects including an employment law briefing. Practical workshops looking at managing change in the workplace also took place.
