Free online sessions for officers and staff during Neighbourhood Policing Week
The College of Policing is hosting a number of free virtual sessions for police staff and officers to mark this year’s Neighbourhood Policing Week, beginning on Monday June 23.
The sessions will provide neighbourhood policing teams with valuable tools and knowledge for their roles, as well as celebrating some of the most notable achievements in neighbourhood policing.
The hour-long online sessions cover a diverse range of topics, including practical techniques for dealing with anti-social behaviour in local parks, strategies for tackling and preventing retail crime in high streets, and combatting County Lines operations with a deep-dive into Cleveland Police’s successful Operation Arrow.
Attendees will even have the chance to see a live demonstration of the proof-of-concept version of a national artificial intelligence capability currently being developed for policing, as well as gaining insights into innovative tools such as the Single Online Home platform, where members of the public will be able to find details of their local neighbourhood officer.
The sessions are open to all officers, staff and volunteers interested in neighbourhood policing.
The week will also see the full national launch of the Neighbourhood Policing Programme after a successful pilot in 11 forces, and, on the Tuesday, Chief Superintendent Andy Sidebotham will introduce the College of Policing’s new dedicated training in a joint session with Assistant Chief Constable Michelle Shooter, the national lead for neighbourhood policing.
Chief Supt Sidebotham, head of uniformed policing at the College of Policing, said: “We know how important neighbourhood policing is to the public, and we’re pleased to be able to support such an important part of modern policing through our sessions and our dedicated training.
“Neighbourhood policing is something that’s constantly evolving. That’s why it’s so valuable for us to be able to have these sessions where we share some of the best examples and innovative solutions that officers and staff will be able to take away and put into practice in their local communities.
“We’re proud to be supporting officers, PCSOs, and volunteers with resources and training to help them do their jobs to the best of their ability. By equipping neighbourhood teams with the skills and knowledge they need, we can both cut crime and strengthen the public’s trust and confidence in the police.”
