Merseyside Police has arrested four people thought to have helped Shaun Walmsley escape from prison as it continues its search for the criminal at large.

Officers carried out warrants in Anfield, Liverpool and Kinmel Bay, North Wales on Wednesday night (April 26).

Two women aged 65 and 33, and two men aged 66 and 38 were arrested on suspicion of assisting a person unlawfully at large and money laundering.

A significant amount of cash and two vehicles were seized, and searches of the properties are ongoing.

A total of 14 people have now been arrested in relation to convicted murderer Walmsley’s case – ten have been released pending a disposal decision and four remain in custody.

Walmsley has been on the run since February 21 after two armed men threatened prison guards to release him outside Aintree University Hospital.

The men fled in a gold Volvo which was later found abandoned on a residential street near the hospital.

Detective Superintendent Natalie Perischine said: “I want to reassure the public that Merseyside Police is committed to establishing Walmsley’s whereabouts.

“There is currently a reward of £20,000 on offer for information leading to the apprehension of Walmsley and his return to prison.”

The reward is part of money seized from Walmsley after he was convicted of killing Anthony Duffy in May 2014.
