The College of Policing has issued guidance on how police forces should carry out officer fitness tests.

The tests include a 15m shuttle run to be completed to an endurance level of 5:4, although there will be no obstacle course or upper strength testing.

Test results will be examined to ensure the recommendations do not discriminate against officers based on age, disability or gender.

In the first year, there will be no sanctions for officers who fail the test or are unable to take it for medical reasons.

Each force’s chief constable will be responsible for how the interim guidance is implemented.

The tests were implemented following a recommendation in Tom Winsor’s Independent Review of Police Pay and Remuneration.
