Dr Tim Brain is to be awarded an OBE in the Queens 2008 birthday honours list.
On receiving the notification of the award, Dr Brain paid tribute to his officers and staff for their hard work and dedication, particularly during the flood crises that hit the area last year.
In receiving this honour, I am conscious of the superlative way in which police, partner agencies and members of communities worked together to overcome the difficulties, he said.
I will take great pleasure in receiving it on behalf of the Constabulary as a whole, in recognition of the work done year in, year out to support the residents.
