After completing 30 years of pensionable service, Mr Rodenhurst ‘temporarily retired’ earlier this month.

He will now return to his post on November 4 for a further three years in line with police regulations under the Retire and Rejoin scheme.

Mr Rodenhurst said: “I would like to thank the police and crime commissioner (PCC) and the panel for their support in endorsing my decision to continue my service with Bedfordshire Police.

“I am committed to serving the people of Bedfordshire, a county which my family and I call home.

“I will continue to lead the dedicated officers and staff at Bedfordshire Police to build on our achievements and improve further the service we provide to our communities alongside our partners”.

PCC John Tizard said: “I am very pleased that Trevor is continuing as chief constable for the next three years.

“I know that Trevor is well respected not only in the police service but also with our many communities and partners across the county, and indeed across the country.

“I look forward to working with him as we continue this exciting journey of public service and the implementation of the Police and Crime Plan”.

The panel also confirmed the appointment of Sharn Basra as the chief executive for the Office of the PCC. He was Bedfordshire Police assistant chief constable until June last year after spending most of his policing career in Bedfordshire.
