Chief appointed as director of 2012 Games security

Chief constable of the British Transport Police (BTP) Sir Ian Johnston has been appointed as the London 2012 Organising Committee’s Director of Security and Resilience.
The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) is responsible for routine in-venue security at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in addition to its wider corporate responsibilities for resilience and contingency planning. Sir Ian will leave as chief of BTP after eight years to take up the role in late September.
Sir Ian will manage the relationship with all key security stakeholders, including the Home Office’s Olympic Security Directorate, and will take forward the strategic development of LOCOG’s in-venue security planning, ensuring that all plans are fully integrated with other functional areas. Additionally he will work on an integrated resilience plan for the Games, including information security risks.
During the Olympic events, Sir Ian will have responsibility for overseeing in-venue security.
