Charges after woman dies during police pursuit
A man will appear in court this morning (February 24) to face charges in connection with the death of a female pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle during a police pursuit in South London.
Anisha Vidal-Garner, 20, from Epping, died at the scene after being struck on a pavement in Brixton Hill as the car fled police at 9.45pm on February 19.
The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) said the collision took place after officers had signalled for the car to stop and it failed to do so.
The car was later found abandoned close to the scene where Ms Vidal-Garner died and is believed to have been driving at speeds of up to 70mph at the time of the accident.
Quincy Anyiam, 26, from Surrey, will appear at Croydon Magistrates’ Court to face charges of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision and dangerous driving.
The MPS’s Directorate of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct are to investigate the incident.
