Chair of Scottish Police Authority to step down
Martyn Evans is to step down as chair of the Scottish Police Authority (SPA) at the end of his current four-year appointment term in January.
Mr Evans has led the SPA’s board as chair since February 2021, having joined as a board member in June 2018.
Announcing his retirement at the SPA’s board meeting in Glasgow last week, he said: “I have informed the Cabinet secretary of my decision, the chief constable, the chief executive, and board members.
“In my view, 2025 is a right time for a new chair to work with the board to build on our shared agenda of continuous improvement, financial prudence and delivery of the second phase of strategic police and forensic services reform.”
The Scottish government is expected to announce a recruitment process for a new chair in late September.
Mr Evans added: “I still have five months to serve, and I look forward to those months, working together with the same high levels of mutual commitment, respect, good humour and optimism.”
The SPA’s chief executive, Lynn Brown, also confirmed to the board her own intention to retire in 2025. Ms Brown has been in post since 2019 and said she intends to support the induction of a new chair and allow a recruitment process prior to retiring by autumn 2025.
