The charges against Police Sergeant Gregory Wyss, 45, relate to the arrest and restraint of the man while he was in custody at Peterborough Police Station on January 2, 2021.

Following the incident, the man alleged the officer had used excessive force and a referral was made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).

The IOPC began its investigation in February 2021 and referred the case to the Crown Prosecution Service last month. The officer was notified of the CPS’ charging decision on June 29.

Sgt Wyss is due to appear at Cambridge Magistrates Court on August 12.
