Cambridgeshire Constabulary Chief Constable Simon Parr has announced his retirement from policing.
Cambridgeshire Constabulary Chief Constable Simon Parr has announced his retirement from policing.
Mr Parr will retire at the end of July after completing almost 32 years` service.
He began his career with Sussex Police; during his 20 years at the force he undertook a variety of roles including head of the control rooms department, the commander of East Downs division and latterly head of the operations department.
Mr Parr joined Hertfordshire Constabulary as assistant chief constable in 2004 and was promoted to deputy chief constable in 2007. He was appointed chief constable of Cambridgeshire Constabulary in September 2010.
He is also the national policing lead for information management and has become involved in the development and use of ICT in policing. This has led to him becoming a member of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners Police ICT Board and co-chair of the Microsoft Worldwide Public Safety and Justice Advisory Council.
Mr Parr said: “There is never a perfect time to leave a role that I have enjoyed as much as this, but with a new government in place, a new round of spending challenges to be met, and, no doubt, other unseen challenges to be tackled, this seems in my judgment to be the right time for me to hand over the stewardship of the organisation to someone who will lead the constabulary through the next five years.
“It has been an enormous privilege to spend so much time in public service and I am honoured to have held the office of constable for so long.”
The forces Deputy Chief Constable Alec Wood will become acting chief constable until a recruitment process takes place.
