BTP officer dismissed without notice
A serving British Transport Police (BTP) officer has been dismissed without notice from the force following a public misconduct hearing.
Police Constable Aaran Simpson, based at Richmond station, was off duty when he was arrested on suspicion of assaulting his partner, also a police officer, at a residential address in London on November 15, 2019. Following an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service, he was charged with assault by beating.
On Thursday, June 10, PC Simpson attended a misconduct hearing where he answered allegations that he breached the standards of professional behaviour, namely honesty and integrity and discreditable conduct. The independent panel found that his actions amounted to gross misconduct.
Detective Superintendent Peter Fulton, Head of BTP’s Professional Standards Department, said: “PC Simpson’s actions were completely inexcusable, and there is no doubt he has brought discredit on the service. The public expect our officers to uphold the law and protect them from harm, and PC Simpson has undermined this confidence. I support the decision of the independent panel to dismiss him with immediate effect.”
