The British Transport Police is set to become the first UK force to use a pay-as-you-go e-procurement technology system to buy a range of goods and services including veterinary care and uniforms.

The move is part of a wider plan by the force to modernise its procurement systems and gain control over BTP’s £40 million annual goods and services spend, according to supplymanagement.com.

In particular the system will help to reduce the 3,000-strong supply base that BTP uses and also study areas where better deals could be found.

Nigel Ellis, BTP project manager for e-procurement, said: “We have a devolved organisation so we needed a process in place to make our procurement more efficient.”
