Bradford grooming gang jailed
Nine men who raped and abused two teenage girls who were living in a children’s home in Bradford have been jailed for a total of 132 years.
Bradford Crown Court heard that ringleader Basharat Khaliq (above, top right) first met the girls in 2008, when he was 27 and they were both 14. Over the following years he groomed and repeatedly raped one of the girls and on one occasion abused the other. At the same time, the girls were exploited and abused by other men they met.
Kahliq was found guilty of five counts of rape and one count of assault by penetration and jailed for 20 years after a six-week trial. The other men were jailed for between 20 years and 18 months.
Speaking after sentencing, Senior Investigating Officer Detective Superintendent Jonathan Morgan of West Yorkshire Police, said: “This is a very satisfactory conclusion to what has been a challenging and lengthy investigation.”
