BeCrypt has announced the release of the latest version of their PDA Protect software that supports Microsoft Windows Mobile 5 Operating System. The new version is compatible with the new Windows messaging pack that supports Direct Push email, the latest technology whereby emails are sent automatically to users’ PDAs without users needing to log on or download them via a browser.

PDA Protect enables users to access data when working remotely using their PDA, while ensuring that information remains secure.

PDA Protect provides protection for the PDA itself and any removable memory card that may be in use. This is achieved with strong authentication and encryption that ensures the connection between the server and remote PDA is secure.

The package enables data managers to prevent PDAs from connecting to unauthorised computers – such as home PCs – as these could present a security risk. Should a user forget their password, the Device Recovery facility permits the user to regain access. PDA Protect can be configured to automatically delete all data, should the password failures exceed a pre-determined number.

The software can also be used to audit the data that the PDA contains and also prevent any function that the device may posses from operating. This is particularly useful when Bluetooth functions need to be disabled as they can present a security risk to the data stored on the PDA. David Holman, CEO of BeCrypt said: “Mobile technology enables both individuals and companies to truly benefit from remote working, however it poses the biggest risk by enabling access to valuable corporate data.

“With the release of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile 5, we expect the trend for business usage of PDAs to increase dramatically putting even more corporate digital assets at risk. BeCrypt’s solutions provide true secure connection and encryption of data, allowing organisations to protect digital assets by defining and controlling access, yet still enable mobile staff to work productively.”
