Award For Financial Investigators
The best financial investigators in the country are being sought for a new national award.
Forces and law enforcement agencies from across the country are being invited to nominate someone to become the first recipient of a pioneering new national award.
The Keith Hughes Award for Excellence in Financial Investigation has been established in memory of Keith Hughes, a former member of the National Crime Squads Money Laundering Investigation Team (MLIT).
Keith, a seconded Metropolitan officer, was a detective constable within the MLIT until his death from cancer in July 2003 aged 42.
The award will be presented annually to promote and reward the values that Keiths work and life inspired and is open to accredited financial investigators across the UK.
The idea was spearheaded after Keiths wife Tina approached her husbands colleagues at the Crime Squad. Detective Superintendent Tony Thomas, the NCS head of Financial Investigation, said: Keith was a highly regarded member of staff and an excellent investigator. It seems very fitting that his life should be honoured in this way. Financial investigation is often the key element in tackling crime.
The award is open nationally to those in the law enforcement financial investigation field. It can be awarded to an individual or a team.
The successful recipient(s) will have demonstrated some or all of the following:
_Determination to succeed over a protracted period
_Innovation
_Ability to confront difficulties and achieve success in the face of complexity and/or adversity
_Highest standards of integrity and professionalism
_Have delivered a substantial outcome for the public interest
_Leadership
Nominations should be from the candidates line manager and should also have the support of a senior supervisor. The entry should outline the issues that are felt to warrant recognition. Authors should include contact details.
The final judging panel will include: Jane Earl, ARA Director; Jim Gamble, NCS Deputy Director General; Paul Evans, SOCA Executive Director of Intervention; and Les Beaumont, HMRC Deputy Director Specialist Financial Investigations.
The closing date for entries is October 7, 2005. Written nominations of no more than 1,000 words should be sent to ncs150.fi@ncs.police.uk, or phone Vicki Foster on 020 7029 9541 for further details.
