Surrey Police has appointed a new assistant chief constable as one of its existing senior staff moves across to Kent Police.

Stuart Cundy, a chief superintendent in the Metropolitan Police Service (MPS), will take up his new role shortly, while Rob Price will leave his position as temporary assistant chief constable in Surrey to take up a permanent position in Kent.

Since joining the MPS in 1994, Ch Supt Cundy has worked on a number of high-profile cases, including the murder of Sally Anne Bowman in Croydon in 2005. He became head of Trident Gang Command in 2010 and completed the Strategic Command Course in 2013.

“I am honoured to be joining Surrey Police,” he said.

“It’s a challenging time for policing nationally and as a Surrey resident myself I look forward to working with officers, staff and all those who work with Surrey Police to ensure we give the best possible service to Surrey`s communities.”

Lynne Owens, chief constable of Surrey Police, welcomed Ch Supt Cundy’s appointment, saying his “wealth of experience” would be a valuable asset.

Mr Price joined Avon and Somerset Constabulary in 1985, earning promotion to sergeant in 1991 and inspector five years later. He moved to Surrey Police as a chief inspector in 2001, becoming chief superintendent in 2003, and is the national lead for the Association of Chief Police Officers (ACPO) Reform Team.

Kent Police Chief Constable Ian Learmonth said: “I am delighted to announce that Rob Price will be joining us, and I look forward to working with him to help ensure Kent stays one of the safest places in the UK.

“Rob was appointed after a tough selection process, with five strong candidates. He has a wealth of operational policing experience which is suited to meet the challenges in Kent over the next few years.”
