Deputy Head of Investigations – Counter Terrorism Policing

The Counter Terrorism Policing (CTP) network stretches across the UK. We work alongside our partners to help protect the public and our national security by preventing, deterring and investigating terrorist activity.

Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands (CTPWM) have an exciting opportunity for a substantive Detective Chief Inspector to join us as the Deputy Head of Investigations, based at our modern offices close to Birmingham Airport.

The post holder will work closely with the Head of Investigations (Detective Superintendent) and will be responsible for having a direct operational overview of all of the Counter Terrorism Investigations Units. This presently includes all elements of the Investigative Support Functions (Functions include Investigations Team, Nominal Management, Forensic Management Team, Financial Investigators, HOLMES, Digital Investigations & Media Viewing, Audio Team) and a significant input into Consequence Management Strategies, which ensures CTPWM activity protects the public from the risks of terrorism and violent extremism whilst minimising community disruption. Understanding the impact of CTPWM’s actions and investigations have on local communities, regionally and nationally.

We are looking for an individual with a strong operational background, who demonstrates the ability to lead a team of experienced Senior Investigating Officers who are responsible for managing complex investigations using covert and sensitive tactics. The post holder should have proven experience in building excellent working relationships, with the ability to negotiate and use innovation in sometimes pressured environments. This role will require the post holder to represent CTPWM on a local, national and international level, with other police forces, law enforcement agencies and wider partners engaged in counter terrorism.

The Deputy Head of Investigations will also be expected to make a significant contribution as part of the CTPWM Senior leadership team, leading on ‘cross-cutting’ themes and contributing to the CTU Business plans in order to continually improve the quality of service and performance that we provide locally, regionally and nationally in the current economic climate.

Essential Criteria: It is essential for the successful candidate to be PIP3 accredited or minimum PIP2 and currently in process of acquiring PIP3 accreditation.

Security Clearance: This role is subject to successful completion of Developed Vetting.

You must be a citizen of one of the following countries to work for Counter Terrorism Policing West Midlands (CTPWM). The UK (including Northern Ireland), USA, Canada, Australia or New Zealand. If you hold dual nationality, with one of those being British, you may also be considered. For the purposes of safeguarding national security, applicants will be required to hold or acquire the appropriate national security vetting clearance as above, in line with Cabinet Office Policy, supported by Section 82(2) to (4) of the Police Reform Act (2002). CTPWM will support preferred candidates through the appropriate vetting process.
