Gloucestershire rolls out hi-tech police vetting management system
Gloucestershire Constabulary has been using a sophisticated new vetting management software to ensure a safe environment for its staff and members of the public.
Gloucestershire Constabulary has been using a sophisticated new vetting management software to ensure a safe environment for its staff and members of the public.
Gloucestershire has rolled out the web-based system to centralise its entire vetting process and speed up the retrieval of information regarding job applicants and visitors to its premises.
It has been working closely with computer systems specialists WPC Software to develop the Core-Vet software, which has also been adopted by Sussex, Warwickshire, Grampian and Northumbria police forces.
Core-Vet enables vetting teams to administer applications for all police staff and officers, as well as non-police personnel such as outside contractors.
The system allows forces to build up a complete history of a particular applicant, which can encompass everything from previous applications and addresses to previous checks and clearance levels. It also reminds vetting operators of checks and clearance levels that are due for renewal or review, and can print certificates, letters and bespoke reports.
Staff in reception areas can quickly validate a contractors vetting and identity, which is assisted by Core-Vets ability to display photographs. Users can also provide a quick response to enquiries from other police forces, while maintaining a full historical trail of force to force checks.
Core-Vet provides us with a central vetting system that will make the management and retrieval of information far simpler, said Bill Moir, Gloucestershire Constabularys information security and vetting manager. We no longer have to search for information across different systems and databases its all there at the click of a button.
The system has also been rolled out to all our receptionists who can tell instantly whether or not an outside contractor has been cleared for unescorted access. The system therefore makes a significant contribution to the safety of our personnel and members of the public visiting our premises.
