Thames Valley Police has appointed Francis Habgood as its new deputy chief constable.
He became acting deputy chief constable earlier this week and will take up the position on a permanent basis in mid-October. Mr Habgood will succeed Alex Marshall who has become the new chief constable of Hampshire Constabulary.
Mr Habgood, 43, joined Thames Valley Police in January 2004 as assistant chief constable of specialist operations, and more recently took on the role of assistant chief constable of local policing.
Previously, Mr Habgood served with West Yorkshire Police, which he joined in 1987. He took the lead on West Yorkshires response to the Macpherson report and was heavily involved with community and safety.
Mr Habgood has also taken the lead on a number of high-profile operations while at Thames Valley, including Operation Haul, which resulted in an organised criminal network being jailed for 49 years.
