Herts police will wear new uniform

From May 5, frontline uniformed officers and PCSOs in Hertfordshire will be wearing new look uniforms.

All uniformed frontline staff – including traffic and neighbourhood officers – will now wear a zip-neck shirt instead of the traditional collared shirt and tie. The new shirts are made from a breathable, lightweight fabric designed to draw heat away from the body, which is particularly important for officers when wearing their protective vest.

Chief Superintendent Steve Ottaway, head of Operational Support at Hertfordshire Constabulary, said: “We welcome any measure which allows our officers to do their jobs to the best of their ability, especially after seeing the benefits other forces have experienced with these new shirts.

“We’ve had a really positive response from the staff who have trialled the shirts, who have said that they are much more comfortable and have a modern look and feel to them.”

Non-frontline officers will continue to wear traditional attire.
