The first of the new recruits promised by the Scottish Government to boost the number of police officers have started their training.

Ministers had already committed to recruit an extra 500 officers, with 150 of those pledged for this financial year.

Fifty two new recruits began their training programme at the Tulliallan Police College. A further 98 new officers will take part in the next two course intakes, starting in February and March.
