Police in Brixham are trialling an electric-powered cycle – the first time one has been used by Devon and Cornwall.

The Power Cruiser can reach speeds of up to 20mph and travel around 30 miles using its 36-volt, 250-watt motor.

The environmentally friendly electric cycle costs little more than a standard pushbike and is being used by Neighbourhood Beat Manager PC Glenn Chambers.

PC Chambers, who normally uses a police push bike, said: “The powered cycle will make it a lot easier to get around my patch and will be especially helpful up the steep hills. However, it still has all the benefits of riding a conventional bike, as I will still be visible in the same way to the residents of the area I serve.”
