Using e-fit technology is now commonplace across all forces, but police in Ipswich are pushing the technology one stage further by using a morphing technique to combine two eyewitness descriptions into one e-fit image.

It is hoped that the new image of a violent attacker who broke a man’s jaw will be recognised by a member of the public.

DC Clifford Clark of Suffolk Constabulary told the Evening Star: “Both offenders were mixed race and because in the e-fit system we have either a white male database or a black Caribbean database we decided, instead of releasing two different e-fits, we would morph them.

“One witness chose to work with the Caucasian database and one with the black database. They have a very similar shaped face, similar eyes and mouths but because of the differences in the databases they came out very different.”
