PSNI PC charged after police station shooting

A 40-year-old Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) police officer has appeared in court charged with attempted murder following a shooting at a police station in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

A 40-year-old Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) police officer has appeared in court charged with attempted murder following a shooting at a police station in County Antrim, Northern Ireland.

A PSNI spokeswoman confirmed that the off-duty officer, Diane Northcott was arrested at the scene, at Newtownabbey PSNI station where the incident allegedly happened.

The off-duty officer was arrested after a colleague, Laurence Smyth, was shot. He has been left seriously ill, in hospital, in what has been referred to as “a domestic related incident”.

The incident happened on the evening of September 16. No other members of the public were involved and the Police Ombudsman`s office was informed.

PC Northcott was remanded in custody until October 2.
