Police motorcyclist dies in crash

A 33-year-old police officer had died whilst on a training exercise following a road traffic collision in Bolton.

A 33-year-old police officer had died whilst on a training exercise following a road traffic collision in Bolton.

His motorcycle was in collision with a stationary HGV on Crompton Way in Bolton. A police spokesperson said the officer died at the scene and no-one else was hurt.

PC Allan Shaw, from Ashton-in-Makerfield, was a motorcycle officer based in the road policing unit at Plant Hill.

Mr Shaw joined the force in 1999. He leaves behind a wife and two-year-old daughter.

An investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing.
