Crimestoppers has selected Telstra Europe to provide Crimestoppers Most Wanted website (www.mostwanted-uk.org) with guaranteed 100 per cent service availability for its record numbers of visitors. Launched in November 2005, the initial launch of the site attracted a record 33,000 visitors within 10 minutes.
This prompted Crimestoppers and Reading Room, Crimestoppers website developers, to recommend that Telstra Europe should be called in to provide fail-safe business continuity, and ensure 100 per cent availability of the site, whatever the number of visitors.
Reading Rooms Commercial Director Neal Davies commented, Most Wanted is a unique service for the police in its fight against crime, but even we were surprised by the fact that on day one, it received nearly 3 million hits, putting a strain on our infrastructure.
In light of the overwhelming success of the site and a need to ensure Crimestoppers business continuity strategy was water tight, Telstra Europe, which has a great reputation in the market to host and manage sites, was engaged to ensure this aim.
Telstra Europe now houses Crimestoppers mission critical servers in a dedicated facility at Telstras state of the art data centre in Docklands.
Stephen Belgrave, New Media and Technology Manager, Crimestoppers UK commented, On average since launch, the website has attracted close to half a million visitors per month; it is a hugely valuable tool for the police with ever more increasing potential being realised and it has become exceptionally popular with the UK public.
David Thorn, CEO of Telstra Europe stated, Crimestoppers is one of our most important charities and an integral part of the police forces fight against crime.
The overwhelming public response to the website demonstrates the importance of its work. We are delighted to host the website and ensure that this critical service will always be available to the public and the police.
