Surveillance technology wins award

Switzerland-based EMITALL Surveillance SA has won the Technology Innovation Award 2006 from Frost & Sullivan in the field of investigative support.

A leading developer of intelligent video surveillance technologies, EMITALL provides sophisticated solutions for remote video surveillance systems.

New products are planned for 2006 including remote video surveillance and privacy protection systems. “The surveillance system offers not only easy and seamless access to video and images of a video surveillance system, any time and from anywhere, but also allows residential areas to be equipped with cost-effective video monitoring systems that provide high-quality images for criminal identification,” said Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Haritha Ramachandran.

Advanced, high-performance technologies underpin EMITALL’s solutions. For instance, the company’s surveillance technology exploits the multiple benefits of the recent JPEG 2000 standard. Used to encode video, JPEG 2000 allows the detection of events and the identification of regions of interest. The resulting video can then be encoded with better quality and scrambled.

“EMITALL’s privacy protection systems offer a cost-effective technology for public institutions, which can be implemented either with existing or new video surveillance installations,” added Haritha Ramachanfran. “The privacy protection system’s features, which often involve multiple levels of scrambling, allow security departments to allay concerns about violations of privacy and boost public acceptance of video surveillance systems.”
