Premier Electronics Ltd, in alliance with A4 Vision and Global Securities has been awarded the contract to supply real time 3D facial recognition technology to the Police Information Technology Organisation (PITO).

PITO has selected the system to control access to its Biometrics Demonstration Laboratory at the organisation’s headquarters. In addition to providing access control, it will be used for demonstrations to staff and stakeholders from across the police service and wider government, as well as for evaluation purposes.

The new A4 Vision Access 3D face reader system combines standard digital photography with real time 3D facial recognition, providing a very powerful recognition and identification system with the ability to also produce a standard digital photograph.

Geoff Whitaker, Head of Biometrics at PITO, said: “3D face recognition systems have the potential to provide a very effective means of controlling access as well as identifying suspects, and the installation of this state of the art technology at PITO’s offices will offer us the opportunity to demonstrate its possible operational benefits to the police service.”
