The rioting that has erupted across France continued last night marking more than two weeks of disturbances in many deprived immigrant areas of the country.

There were almost 400 cars set alight, a primary school attacked and an electricity sub-station destroyed in various cities.

The violence has receded this week although last night was the worst for a few days.

French police say they have intelligence that further rioting is planned for this weekend, following calls for more ‘violent acts’ found on the internet.

Thousands of extra police have been deployed in Paris ahead of armistice ceremonies. The government have also invoked special powers declaring a state of emergency in Paris and many other cities.

Local authorities have the power to introduce curfews and the government has banned rallies that might lead to disturbances.

The violence began two weeks ago after 2 boys died when they entered an electricity sub-station. It was claimed they were being chased by police officers, which has been denied by the authorities.
