PCC appoints ‘experienced’ ex-MP as deputy

Hampshire police and crime commissioner (PCC) Michael Lane has named a former Conservative MP as his preferred candidate for the deputy role. Flick Drummond lost her Portsmouth seat – which she held for two years – to Labour’s Stephen Morgan in June’s general election. Mr Lane said Mrs Drummond would support him in developing and running campaigns as well as increasing engagement across Hampshire and the Isle of Wight at events and meetings. “I am delighted to name Flick Drummond as my preferred candidate for Deputy Police and Crime Commissioner,” he added. “Flick’s depth of experience both as an MP representing Portsmouth South in Westminster, and locally in her many roles within the community, gives her the qualities I need to support me in delivering my Police and Crime plan. “I am looking forward to working with her in serving the residents of the Hampshire Constabulary policing area.” A confirmation hearing for the deputy is scheduled for the next Police and Crime Panel meeting on October 6. Ms Drummond is a former insurance broker and Ofsted lay school inspector, as well as a former member of the TA Intelligence Corps. She is also the chair of the all-party group for cyber-security. “I am proud to be joining Michael and will be working with him to make Hampshire, the Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, and Southampton safer for everyone who lives, works and visits here,” she said. “I am grateful for this opportunity to help the commissioner continue his work and I believe that my experience as an MP and working with our communities can be put to excellent use.”
