Student officer charged with rape and kidnap
A Greater Manchester Police student officer has been charged with rape and kidnap following an incident involving a woman while he was off duty.
Mohammad Hassan, 23, has been charged with oral rape, kidnap, strangulation, sexual assault, theft of a mobile phone and dangerous driving.
The charges were authorised by the Crown Prosecution Service following a GMP investigation into reports made on the evening of 8 August.
The incident led to a police pursuit on the M62 in West Yorkshire. Hassan, who was still undergoing training, was arrested after being stopped in his personal vehicle.
He has been suspended by GMP and remanded in custody. He appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 11 August.
The woman, who is in her 20s, was safeguarded at the scene and is being supported by specialist officers and support services.
Assistant Chief Constable Mark Dexter said the victim was the force’s priority and that specialist support was being provided.
