Specialist police team charges more than 700 crimes in first year
A specialist Cambridgeshire police team targeting prolific offenders has secured charges for 731 crimes during its first year of operation.
The Northern Spree Offender Team made 262 arrests during its first 12 months, with offences including shoplifting, burglary, assault, breaches of court orders, drug offences and criminal damage.
The team was established in July 2025 to target prolific offenders across Peterborough and Fenland, following a successful pilot in the south of the county.
It has worked with neighbourhood policing, acquisitive crime and integrated offender management teams, as well as local businesses and partner agencies.
The team has also worked with Peterborough’s Business Improvement District to develop the Disc platform, allowing businesses to report incidents directly to police and share intelligence about crime and offenders.
Detective Inspector Tim Archer, who oversees the team, said officers would continue to target prolific offenders and strengthen relationships with retailers and partner agencies.
The force said the team had been able to identify emerging “spree offenders”, make arrests and put suspects before the courts.
