The Chief Constable of Norfolk is inviting applications for the post of Assistant Chief Constable – Local Policing. This opportunity to join Norfolk’s Chief Officer Team is open to existing Assistant Chief Constables or Chief Superintendents and Superintendents seeking promotion.

This position involves overseeing the delivery of Norfolk’s County Policing Command and Safeguarding and Investigations. We are looking for an outstanding police leader with a track record of delivering operational excellence. They must have the ability to inspire those they lead, be an outstanding team player, and be motivated to achieve the best possible outcomes for the residents of Norfolk.

Eligibility

Individuals who previously qualified as eligible for a chief police officer appointment by virtue of successfully completing the senior police national assessment centre (senior PNAC) and the strategic command course (SCC) are eligible for substantive appointment.

Police officers who have successfully completed the executive leaders programme (ELP) as part of cohorts 1 and 2 will be eligible for substantive appointment. Police officers who have demonstrated the baseline standard on the ELP development centre and successfully completed the ELP from cohorts 3 onwards are also eligible for substantive appointment.

Officers who have not yet demonstrated the baseline standard on the ELP development centre and/or have not completed the ELP can be appointed temporarily. Any police officer who is appointed temporarily must commence the ELP within 12 months of temporary appointment or at the next available opportunity if not already on the programme.

A police officer who has been temporarily appointed to a chief police officer role who fails to achieve the required standard at the ELP development centre or the ELP at any point will be withdrawn from the programme. They must revert to their previous substantive rank as soon as practicable.

Police Barred and Advisory lists

Individuals placed on the Police Barred and Advisory lists will not be considered for employment by the police for a minimum of 5 years from the date of listing in the case of gross misconduct, or 3 years from the date of listing in the case of poor performance.

Eligibility Criteria

All Applicants must reside in the UK and have continuous residency for the past three years, rising to five years for certain roles. (The only exceptions are being stationed abroad through the Armed Forces or having taken extended holiday / travelled for a period of less than 12 months, where your UK residency has been maintained) Please refer to the job description for the residency requirements for this role.
